Spill Response
23rd May 2008
Enva was contacted at 8:45 by a customer regarding an overturned artic fuel delivery tanker with 12,000 litres of petrol & 8,000 litres of derv remaining in the vessel. The accident happened at Newbuildings on the main Derry-Strabane carriageway and the road had been closed and traffic diverted. Approximately 400 litres of product had escaped on to the road via the dip valves. |
| Enva was instructed to remove all spilt product whilst our customer’s task was to remediate the contamination. The EHS & NIFA were called to the spillage and already on site when Enva arrived with a jet-vac tanker. |
| The fuel was transferred to another delivery tanker by the Fuel Company involved, while the damaged tanker was recovered to enable cleaning and have the carriageway opened. |
| On completion of pre-works risk assessments and works permits, Enva’s operatives proceeded to recover the spilt fuel and wash the area. All product was recovered to the Carryduff facility and transported under the appropriate documentation. |
| The duration of fuel recovery & cleaning was 3.5 hours. Response times was under 2 hours from initial work instruction. |
